Assistant Professor, Global Economic History (Japan/Korea)

The Cluster of Excellence “Asia and Europe in a Global Context” at Heidelberg University is looking to appoint a full-time Akademischer Mitarbeiter TV-L (equivalent to Lecturer/Maître de Conférence/Assistant Professor) in the research team of cultural economic history.

Successful candidates should have completed a dissertation in the fields of history, economics, political economy, international relations or a related regional studies discipline prior to taking up the advertised position. One of their research interests should be in exploring international dimensions of modern economic history. Besides fluency in English, research competence in Japanese or Korean is expected. Ability to speak additional European or Asian languages is an asset. Non-native speakers of German are encouraged to obtain a working knowledge of German. The post can be taken up at the latest by October 2017. The duration of the initial appointment is for two years. The teaching load is two courses per semester and the language of instruction is English, especially for the M.A. in Transcultural Studies with a popular concentration in Society, Economics and Governance and a joint degree version with Kyoto University. There are the usual German administrative responsibilities including academic liaison with our HeKKSaGOn partner universities (Kyoto, Tohoku and Osaka), writing grant applications and pastoral support for M.A. students.
